Objective

The purpose of LTI Korea Translation Academy Summer Intensive Course is to train translators to produce good translations that are true to the original text and accessible to target language readership.

Description
Centered around hands-on literary translation practice, the program includes lectures on Korean literature, meeting with Korean writers, and trips to places where literary works are set.
Applicant Qualifications
Any Korean or none Koreans interested in translating Korean Literature (The education background will not be considered.)
Target Languages
English, French, German, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, and Japanese (7 languages)
* Classes with less than 3 successful applicants will be closed.
Duration
Two lectures a week for 11 weeks (six hours per week, 2 to 5 pm on weekdays)
The course will be from June to August, 2009 (11 weeks).
The translation camp will be from July 14 to 17 (four days and three nights).

Registration Fee
100,000 won (The entire amount will be spent on the trainees)

2. Self-introduction and statement of purpose in Korean (approximately 3 A4 pages)
3. A sample translation of 서하진, 「착한가족」(More than 2 A4 pages of the translation manuscript)

Number of Program Beneficiaries
approximately 50 applicants will be accepted into the program.
Criteria
Review of the applications, writing exam and interview.
Application Schedule
Apply between April 27 to May 7, 2009.
Results will be posted on May 15, 2009.
The writing exam and interview will be conducted from May 18 to 22, 2009.
The final applicants will be announced and registration will begin from May 27 to June 5, 2009.
The courses will start with the orientation on June 10, 2009.
