LTI Korea Translation Academy
- Purpose
- LTI Korea operates the Translation Academy as a specialist translation education facility to nurture an upcoming generation of translators with a love of Korean literature and culture; the Translation Atelier is designed to give top graduates of the Translation Academy real experience as translators in order to build up their portfolios.

- The intensive course is a full-time program run on weekdays for those with a keen interest in the translation of Korean literary and cultural texts.
- The program is run in 5 language sections: English, French, German, Spanish, and Russian.
Around 6 students are chosen for each language section, among selected candidates who are non-Koreans residing overseas, around three students per language section will be chosen as recipients of the one-year LTI Korea Translation Academy Scholarship.
- To fit in with international term times the course begins in September and continues to the following June. The course is divided into two semesters with lectures on weekdays that amount to 11 hours of class time per week.
- The curriculum is centered on developing literature translation skills through hands on practice with the following classes: Translation Practice; Understanding Texts; Advanced Writing Styles; Understanding Korean Literature; and Korean Language (for international students).
- Also, opportunities such as meetings with Korean authors and literary tours are organized to deepen students' understanding of Korean literature and culture, to encourage and foster their development into professional translators of literature.
- The special course is run as an evening class for those who are enthusiastic about translating Korean literature but may not be able to attend classes during the daytime.
- The course is run in 7 language sections: English, French, German, Spanish, Russian, Chinese and Japanese. Anyone with an interest in Korean literature translation, regardless of nationality or academic record, is eligible to apply for this program.
- Each language section is made up of up to 10 students, with lectures starting in April and ending in December. The course is divided into two semesters with one 2-hour class per week held on a weekday evening, making a total of 24 classes.
- Also, opportunities such as meetings with Korean authors and literary tours are organized to deepen students' understanding of Korean literature and culture, to encourage and foster their development into professional translators of literature.
- The advanced course is offered to graduates of the intensive and special courses as a form of further education, it is designed to act as a stepping-stone for graduates of the intensive and special courses in their journey from student to professional translator.
- The advanced course promotes the production of top-class, well finished translations through in-depth lectures on translation practice.
- The program is run in English, French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, and Japanese, with around 6 students selected per language.
- Lectures begin in April and run until December, the year is divided into two semesters with a total of 12 two-hour classes run every other week on weekday evenings.
